Sciences & Engineering

Type

Postgraduate Research

Description:

The UBTech Sydney AI Institute is committed to contributing to the progress of artificial intelligence, to endow machines the capabilities of perceiving, learning, reasoning, and behaving. Specifically, Institute researchers will design shallow or deep models to; extract, represent, understand information encoded in data, build algorithms and theories. This is with the aim to establish, analyse, and evaluate models that can learn and make predictions on data, create prototypes or applications to investigate autonomous agent actions, and to identify patterns and apply logic.

Eligibility:

Applicants must have:

  • An unconditional offer of admission for full-time studies in a PhD within the School of Information Technologies at the University of Sydney, and be willing to undertake research in the field of mathematical foundations of deep learning base computer vision.
  • Achieved a minimum average mark of 85 or above in their undergraduate program.
  • A strong background and knowledge of mathematics and demonstrable computer programing skills.
  • Selection Criteria:

The successful applicant will be awarded the Scholarship on the basis of:

  • academic merit,
  • area of study and research proposal,
  • curriculum vitae,
  • feedback from two academic referees, and
  • a personal statement which demonstrates their interest in the field of mathematical foundations of deep learning based computer vision and background in mathematics and computer programing.
  • The successful applicant will be awarded the Scholarship by the nomination of the relevant research supervisors in the School of Information Technologies.

    Amount awarded:

The Scholarship will provide an annual stipend allowance of $26,682 per annum (indexed to the RTP rate) for up to three years, subject to satisfactory academic performance. The recipient may apply for an extension of up to 6 months.
