About This Opportunity 

This is Research focused Academic position within an established research group, conducting pre-clinical vaccine development with UQ’s molecular clamp platform for viruses of medical importance. The role is split across two research areas. Roughly 0.5FTE will focus on implementing a monoclonal antibody discovery pipeline as part of UQ’s Rapid Response Vaccine Pipeline, which is funded by Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). Roughly 0.5FTE will focus on contract research conducted for UQ spinout company Vicebio on preclinical development of viral vaccines.

Key responsibilities will include: 

Research

  • Conduct high quality and focused research as part of a team to achieve a well-defined set of project goals.

  • Thorough recording of results using an electronic lab book format.

  • Preparation of regular progress reports

  • Present research at meetings as appropriate (within group and at national/international conferences)

  • Analyze and write up research data for publication in leading international journals.  

Teaching and Learning

  • Some involvement in Honours and (where appropriate) Higher Degree by Research supervision would be expected.

Service and Engagement

Involvement in one or more of the following:

  • Academic service responsibilities

  • Contribute to the outcomes of internal committees

  • Develop external contributions.

  • Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor

This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position through to December 2024 at Academic level A.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $75,808.68 - $100,926.59, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $88,696.16 - $118,084.11 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

About You  

  • PhD in the area of Microbiology, Virology, molecular biology or equivalent .

  • Demonstrated expert knowledge and a contribution to research, including published journal articles

  • Experience with the general techniques in virology, cell biology and molecular biology

  • Expertise in computational modelling of protein structure highly valued

  • An ability to work collaboratively and establish effect relationships and to represent and promote academic discipline at a university and wider community level, including industry, government and professional bodies.

  • Well organised, demonstrated attention to detail and able to compile progress reports

  • Experience in animal handling and research involving animals
