Seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a vibrant research team to support the inaugural Cochlear Chair in Hearing and Health to grow and maintain their public health research program including epidemiological, prevention and translational-oriented research in hearing health of older adults.
THE ROLE
Salary Package: From $81,581 - $109,852 (Level A) plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading. Pro-rata rates apply for part-time appointments.
Appointment type: Full-time, fixed-term position for 1 year with opportunity for extension.
Location: Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde)
The Role
This role is open to application by public health researchers and/or data scientists who have a strong research interest and growing reputation in statistical modelling or cognate fields with demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary and/or applied public health research. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking relevant statistical work in the area of public health research and will support the research of Professor Bamini Gopinath, Cochlear Chair in Hearing and Health and will collaborate with members of her research group, located at the Australian Hearing Hub, Macquarie University.
The successful candidate will be expected to make a vigorous contribution in one or more of the following research areas as well as assist and/or lead key research activities:
Provide a consistent level of contribution to the research activities of the Public Health and Policy Pillar;
Classify and improve prediction methods for multiplatform data;
Develop model visualisation methods to enable interactive and dynamic model building;
Robust selection and estimation in regression type models;
Develop new study proposals;
Take the lead and assist with manuscript preparation;
Recruit and supervise staff and students for the division, as required;
Take the lead and assist with grant applications;
Maintain existing collaborations and establish others.

You will bring your excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills to work closely with our relevant stakeholders, including healthcare policy makers, healthcare executives, clinicians, and consumers, to ensure our project aims are met. You will model behaviours that align with the Macquarie University vision and values and foster these in your team, with research students and the broader community to create an inclusive and high-performance culture.

The Public Health and Policy Pillar of the Macquarie University Hearing Research Centre has the broad primary goal of reducing the social, human and economic impact of adult-onset hearing loss (ARHL). The research within this Pillar includes analyses of data from population health datasets, epidemiological studies, and intervention studies.

Core criteria:
Tertiary qualifications or demonstrated relevant, equivalent professional experience in medicine, health sciences, public health, psychology or a related discipline
Proficient use and knowledge of a wide range of statistical and mathematical platforms including: SPSS, R, MATLAB, Mplus, Excel, NLogit, SAS, Python.
Experience in statistical tests ranging from parametric to non-parametric methods, linear and nonlinear methods and machine learning strategies.
Good communication skills and a publication track record
Potential to generate collaboration and funding from government and non-government organisations.
Strong time and project management skills and can work in a team environment
Ability to supervise postgraduate students
Desirable criteria:
Multidisciplinary in their approach and with an ability to apply skills and experience to various fields
Applicants with extensive expertise and experience in health services research and health information technologies research
Background knowledge in hearing health and audiology
Fluency in SQL, data modelling and database design
