About the opportunity

The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) at The University of Sydney is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Genome Biology to be a key participant in a research team comprising molecular biologists and computational biologists and will collaborate across a broader team of reproductive scientists and genome biologists. This new position offers an exciting opportunity to participate in research that helps us to better understand circannual biology in animals.

Working with Professor Claire Wade and Associate Professor Alyson Ashe , the candidate will develop and manage protocols to understand the genomics and metabolomics of circadian and circannual biology employing a C.elegans model. The broader project is relevant to a range of domestic and wild animal species and there are opportunities to develop skills in a broad range of areas including genetic manipulation of model organisms, bioinformatics, and metabolomics.

The successful applicant will participate in a vibrant multidisciplinary research community. Opportunities exist for the development of your own independent research through the supervision of research undergraduate and research postgraduate projects in a supportive research environment.

We are looking for someone who can help us maintain the momentum of our project and who can foster and manage our wider national and international collaborations.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • a PhD in a relevant area and expertise in genomics, metabolomics, or proteomics

  • willingness to become proficient in C. elegans husbandry

  • the ability to work independently to meet project objectives

  • strong research track record evidenced by lead authorship of publications in high quality media.

Desirable Selection Criteria:

  • experience in C. elegans husbandry, in the preparation of biological samples for downstream analyses, and in the interpretation of transcriptomic data

  • strong problem-solving skills to resolve a diverse range of complex problems

  • the ability to design experiments independently

  • the ability to confidently collaborate with researchers with a range of disciplinary backgrounds.
