The Position

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Candidate to join our team at the Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES), a leader in Earth Sciences in Australia and globally renowned for its contributions to the field. This position is initially limited to two years, with potential for extension for an additional year. It focuses on the numerical modelling of forward and inverse problems of groundwater flow, both in Australia and internationally.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Institute for Water Futures (IWF), leveraging ANU’s robust investment in water research. The IWF combines expertise from a range of disciplines and maintains research partnerships with key organisations like CSIRO and MDBA.

The Person

To excel in this role you will have:

  • PhD in a related field (e.g., geophysical fluid dynamics, applied mathematics, scientific software development) or imminent completion (within six months of appointment start).
  • Demonstrable track record of independent research in relevant fields.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience in developing and validating finite element software in a scientific context.
  • Experience with High-Performance Computing environments.
  • Familiarity with software frameworks such as Firedrake, PETSc, and dolfin-adjoint.
