Position overview

The Research School of Earth Sciences at the Australian National University invites applications for Postdoctoral Fellow (Level A) or Research Fellow (Level B) in climate science or hydrology.

The position will be based in the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (GFD) group at RSES, ANU, under the supervision of Professor Michael Roderick. The position is funded by the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes, and will therefore involve significant engagement with partners in the Centre of Excellence. The appointee will interact closely with researchers at the University of New South Wales and Monash University. Other relevant Centre of Excellence partners include the CSIRO (Hobart/Aspendale), NASA GSFC, UKMO and ETH-Zurich.

We seek a candidate who has experience in using land surface and/or climate models combined with a strong understanding of the underlying hydrological and/or ecological processes along with the motivation to collaborate widely across the Centre of Excellence. Research activities may include, but not be limited to: (1) the role of land surface feedbacks in initiating/prolonging drought, (2) the response of vegetation to drought with impacts on hydrologic drought, (3) the use of model simulations (including CABLE/ACCESS) designed to test competing hypotheses about drought related processes.

ANU encourages a flexible work place and the position is full time but with possibility of part time work subject to any visa conditions if applicable.

For more information about this position please contact Professor Michael Roderick at Ph: +61 (2) 6125 0917, email: michael.roderick@anu.edu.au

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes will provide a supportive and enriching workplace for Early Career Researchers. In particular, the Centre has a strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. In order to boost opportunities for researchers from under-represented groups, we will offer a competitive fellowship scheme to resource leadership training, career development and other programs in addition to the extensive opportunities already offered in the Centre.

The University actively encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. For more information on employment opportunities, contact our Indigenous Employment Consultant on indigenous.employment@anu.edu.au.

ANU values diversity and inclusion and is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to those of all backgrounds and identities. For more information about staff equity at ANU, visit https://services.anu.edu.au/human-resources/respect-inclusion
