About the Role

The Network Security Engineer serves as a senior technical expert for network security, possessing deep knowledge of cybersecurity and networking concepts. A key member of the Cybersecuity Engineering team and collaborating closely with the Networks Team, this role will optimise network device security configurations and ensure controlled traffic flows across the University network.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Serve as the senior technical subject matter expert for network security on the Cybersecuirty team, demonstrating deep knowledge of both cybersecurity and networking concepts
  • Oversee the optimisation of network device security configurations, including firewalls, routers, switches, intrusion detection/prevention systems, packet brokers, and NDR platforms to enhance the University's network security posture
  • Manage traffic flows within the University network, ensuring they are well-managed, understood, and controlled to minimise security risks and thwart propagation of threats
  • Conduct regular security reviews and assessments of network designs and infrastructure, identifying vulnerabilities, compliance gaps, and areas for improvement, and collaborate with relevant teams to remediate issues. Ensure that network security practices align with cybersecurity policies, standards, and regulations

Who we are looking for
You will have strong technical proficiency in configuring and managing network security devices, effective collaboration skills to align network security with organisational goals, and experience in conducting security audits and assessments. You will need knowledge of network security policies and regulations, ensuring their implementation and adherence, along with familiarity with incident response procedures to support network security incident responses.

You will also have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in computer science, information technology or a related field or equivalent professional experience in cybersecurity
  • Demonstrated expertise in network security, with a strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, networking protocols, and security controls. The NSS will have deep understanding of network-based threat vectors and mitigations
