Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Media Officer to join Marketing and Communication, Chancellery Division.

The Strategic Media and Corporate Communication team is seeking an experienced journalist and corporate communication officer to source story information, develop and disseminate content directly to media outlets and social media platforms. The Media Officer will coordinate the production and dissemination of fit for purpose content for broadcast, online and print media, as well as all social media outlets employed by the university. They will also be expected to be familiar with and contribute to the development of an effective and modern media contacts database. The successful applicant will also liaise with media; prepare copy for key corporate publications including e-publications; and assist with layout, production and proof reading. The Media Officer may be required to work evenings and weekends at various times throughout the year. The position is based within the Marketing and Communication Department at the Kelvin Grove campus.

What you need to succeed

  • Education, training and/or experience equivalent to postgraduate qualification, or progress towards postgraduate qualifications, with relevant experience in communication, journalism or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to use own initiative to seek out stories, prepare creative digital media content and pitch stories to media across multiple platforms.
  • Demonstrated interview, writing and editing skills, including coverage of complex subjects.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify appropriate media contacts across platforms to aid in the development of an effective and modern media contacts database.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in the development and implementation of corporate communication strategies and media campaigns for a variety of media channels, including social media.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills to enable the appointee to work within tight deadlines, balance competing priorities and work harmoniously in a small, busy office with a high level of media enquiry.
  • Demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with people at all levels and an ability to maintain confidentiality and commit to the highest ethical standards.
