About the Role:

The overall purpose of the Mechanical Testing Engineer position is to apply the principals and processes of the mechanical engineering discipline to the laboratory testing environment, in order to facilitate the development, conduction and refinement of laboratory projects and services.

In addition, the position is also required to coordinate, oversee and perform technical and maintenance duties related to the NATA Fire Laboratory and Structures Laboratory facilities at the Werribee Campus within the Institute of Sustainable Industries and Liveable Cities (ISILC), VU Research.

This is a full-time fixed term position at HEP 8 classification with salary range, $102,256 - $115,153, plus 17% superannuation working 36.5 (1.0 FTE) hours per week until 2027.

About the Person:

The successful incumbent will be someone with energy who is innovative, progressive and collaborative in the way they work. They will be an excellent communicator who interacts well with others across the University.

An individual in this role would ideally have experience in:

  • Mechanical system design.
  • CAD and CAE systems and workflows.
  • Controls, sensing, and data-logging methods and development.
  • Structural testing equipment operation and test development.
  • Construction materials testing and reporting.
  • Heavy materials handling and transport.
  • Laboratory practices and procedures, as defined by national and international governing standards.
  • Client and contractor liaison.
  • Project and team management.
