About This Opportunity 

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Marketing Senior Officer (Digital Lead & Publicist) to join the University of Queensland Press (UQP). In this role, you will develop and implement UQP’s digital content strategy, support UQP’s brand and campaigns to increase engagement across digital channels and publicise UQP titles as required.

UQP is one of Australia’s oldest and most respected publishing houses. We won the ABIA Small Publisher of the Year award in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

This position is based in Brisbane, Queensland. A remote working arrangement (interstate) may be considered in extenuating circumstances and will require further Executive approval

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Develop and drive UQP’s digital content strategy and initiatives to improve UQP’s online presence and audience engagement.

  • Plan and implement UQP’s digital content schedule, including regular publishing and amplification of relevant native content.

  • Maintain UQP’s website and digital assets including social media platforms.

  • Manage the development and delivery of monthly e-newsletters to subscribers and booksellers, including the maintenance and growth of targeted distribution lists.

  • Plan and deliver creative digital components for individual book and organisational marketing and publicity campaigns.

  • Develop data analysis and reporting for website engagement and digital channels.

  • Lead and coordinate Search Engine Optimization initiatives.

  • Develop effective relationships and generate opportunities with key partners to deliver digital projects, tasks and campaigns.

  • Provide guidance and training to UQP authors and staff around social media engagement and digital platforms and strategy.

  • Assist with other marketing and publicity duties as required.

  • Publicise UQP titles as required which includes (but is not limited to) developing campaign plans, writing media releases, creating mailing lists and distributing review copies, arranging interviews, planning and managing events and book launches.

  • Work with internal teams and external suppliers to coordinate key event related materials.

  • Develop and foster relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Attend trade conferences, launch events and writers’ festivals, as required.

  • Manage events and digital budgets.

  • Any other duties as reasonably directed by your Supervisor.

This is a part-time (60%), continuing position.

At HEW level 6, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $88,099 - $94,512, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $103,076 - $110,579 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.


About You  

  • A degree with subsequent relevant experience or extensive experience and broad knowledge in digital marketing, publishing, publicity and events management or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Demonstrated experience planning and delivering a multi-platform digital content strategy and related events.

  • Sophisticated knowledge of digital and social media landscape and current best practice.

  • Ability to work effectively with UQP authors and manage key relationships with external suppliers (web designers, developers, IT support staff) and external industry partners.

  • Excellent computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, as well as Content Management Systems and aggregation or distribution platforms. (e.g. Later and Mailchimp) and programs such as InDesign and PhotoShop.

  • Significant experience undertaking publicity campaigns and planning and managing events

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with third parties by telephone, email and in person.

  • Ability to prioritise own workload, work independently and meet deadlines.
