About the team

The Brand, Marketing and Recruitment (BMR) division exists for the purpose of showcasing the best of UWA, ultimately enhancing reputation and driving student recruitment. The division consolidates all marketing, communications and future student related activity into one team, enabling efficiency and effectiveness gains for the University.

Functions delivered by the BMR division include organisational wide brand strategy and management, strategic marketing planning, communications activities (advertising, marketing, content, media, public relations); digital communication, reputation management, recruitment planning, business development, schools engagement, contact centre operations and admissions services. The range of functions delivered are all targeted at managing the University’s reputation and achieving its revenue goals.

The Marketing Insight and Analytics team within BMR analyses data and creates actionable insights to inform data-driven strategies, plans, tactical student acquisition opportunities and decision-making. Functions delivered by the Marketing Insight and Analytics team include:

  • Data strategy, including databases to store, profile and target leads.
  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM) analysis and segment opportunity
  • identification.
  • Consumer insights to understand segments, their drivers and behaviour.
  • Marketing insight to review marketing/recruitment activity effectiveness (campaign,
  • channel).
  • Market research to track market and supply chain perceptions and intentions.
  • Environment and competitor monitoring and benchmarking.
  • Commercial analysis to support proposition development and business cases.

About the opportunity

As the appointee you will, under broad direction, provide senior analytical expertise in data management, particularly with data extract, transfer, load (ETL) and data governance to support BMR insight and analytics activities including diagnostic and predictive projects. This includes reporting, data governance, analysis and list generation to support conversion and marketing activities, warehousing, reporting/analysis of operational data, validating existing reporting structures and integrating new customer data sources.

About you 

You have a passion for data science and business analytics in marketing. Using R language to conduct exploratory data analysis and model building on large datasets excite you. You must be competent and independent in constructing enterprise level MS SQL queries, extract & transform data by applying business logic, and create data pipeline/s to drive MS Power BI dashboards. You understand that your true value lies in using actionable insights to drive positive business impacts, and data, stats and tech are just a means to an end. The ideal you have a strong background in leveraging enterprise marketing automation and CRM platforms for higher education student recruitment at scale.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in a mathematics/computing/data science field or demonstrated equivalent competency 
  • Substantial relevant experience at an appropriate level
  • Proficiency in a high level programming language such as R or Python
  • Demonstrated capability to write SQL queries to extract data from relational databases
  • Proficiency in software libraries for data import, web requests, data cleaning and transformation, statistical modelling and data visualisation
  • Demonstrated experience merging, validating and curating datasets to support analytics and operations and in data governance, including handling of personally-identifiable information in a secure manner
  • Demonstrated expertise in segmentation techniques and in identification of business opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to answer queries, write reports and present technical findings to a variety of non-technical stakeholders
  • Sound analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Knowledge of university admissions (or similar) policies, procedures and data structures preferred but not required

Note: Occasional weekend work and some after hours work may be required.
