About the opportunity

The Pipeline and Pre-Award team at the University of Sydney drives innovative research funding initiatives and ensures seamless proposal submissions. They play a pivotal role in transforming groundbreaking ideas into successful research projects.

This team has a brand new opportunity for a Manager, Proposal Assurance and Submissions to oversee research proposal submission services and operational support for the Pre-Award team.

In this role, you will be involved in leading support for funding proposals, providing mentorship to staff, and ensuring compliance with research policies and funding guidelines. The impact of this role is critical in managing stakeholder relationships and facilitating successful research submissions across the University.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Proposal Assurance & Submission and supporting a medium sized team, your key responsibilities will be to:

  • lead the administration and submission of competitive funding proposals, ensuring compliance and quality assurance

  • provide high-level advice to Officers and Administrators on complex funding rules and regulatory requirements

  • oversee accurate documentation and reporting processes, maintaining comprehensive records in research data management systems

  • produce regular, accurate reports on funding proposals, submissions, and compliance, offering insights and analysis

  • contribute to the Research Support Community of Practice, sharing best practices and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

  • strong background in managing proposals and submissions for traditional and non-traditional funding

  • experience in people management, including managing staff performance and development

  • demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining productive relationships with research funding organisations

  • capability in interpreting and applying legislation and policy within the higher education sector

  • proficiency in computer literacy and research support, including supporting researchers

  • demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with senior management, academic and administrative staff, and research students.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. For a continuing position, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the reasons for the position.
