  • Based in the heart of the RMIT city - may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University.

About the Role

The Manager Indigenous Reconciliation will be a key member of the College’s Diversity, Inclusion & Reconciliation team, providing high level strategic advice and leadership to develop and implement STEM College and University-wide initiatives related to the engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander staff, students and partners, and the cultural capability of STEM College staff.

Working collaboratively within the College and across the University, the Manager Indigenous Reconciliation will advocate for and support our commitment to developing and implementing sustainable Reconciliation initiatives.  The incumbent will apply strong engagement and stakeholder management skills to build strong connections with Indigenous communities and organisations to co-design Indigenous led approaches to the STEM College’s strategic directions.

As a connector and promoter of Reconciliation, the incumbent will drive staff capability and awareness of RMIT’s Indigenous strategic commitments and Responsible Practice ambitions. By building relationships, respect and trust the role will support and facilitate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement.

To be successful for this role you will have (but not limited to): 

  • Must be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage (Certificate of Aboriginality will be required).

  • A commitment to advancing meaningful Reconciliation with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples through personal practice.

  • A sound understanding of the systemic barriers and challenges experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities specifically, but not limited to, Victoria.

  • Community connectedness and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and organisations.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build and maintain productive relationships with diverse stakeholder groups, including Indigenous community and industry partners.

  • Working sensitively and effectively, to drive an Indigenous self-determination agenda.

  • Experience in the development and management of programs, project management and researching policy

  • Proven management skills, including the capacity to initiate and assist in continuous improvement and to provide strategic advice and support to senior management.

  • The ability to work co-operatively and flexibly as a member of a team, and also to work autonomously.

  • Managing competing priorities, deadlines and reporting requirements, and to lead through influence to drive outcomes.
