  • Base salary range: $123,330 – $130,504 p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation

UWA is making significant investments in the Information and Technology Services to enable its strategic direction and goals.  UWA is also looking to utilise technology advancements to expand its services and create new and innovative teaching and research models.

Robust, flexible, integrated and agile enterprise architecture, information and technology services are vital to enabling the university strategic objectives.

About the opportunity

As the appointee you will have a significant role in managing the overall planning, development, management and maintenance of databases used to operate the solutions and technology platform.  You will collaborate with teams across IT to ensure database performance, availability, integrity and security. You will be responsible for the disciplined integration and alignment of database solutions in ways that optimise value and reduce risk for UWA, and the management of a portfolio of data assets.

About you 

You will have a strong technical background in database and application server technologies coupled with a proven capability to think strategically and be adaptable to change. You will be confident and competent in leading by example, actioning hands-on database and application server administration activities during peak periods of team demand. You effectively manage resources, including budget, time, and personnel, to optimise efficiency and achieve objectives. You should be an adept communicator with persuasive negotiating skills and be able to clearly articulate a proposal with your recommendation. Your people management experience will allow you to motivate and coach staff to deliver a customer-focused and efficient service, acting as the technology lead and authority for the team.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent competency
  • Substantial and extensive experience in designing, implementing and managing database solutions in line with the information architecture and business solutions requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and high level consultation and negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including analysis and resolution of performance issues, backup and recovery
  • Demonstrated understanding of Linux and Windows OS platforms and cloud services including OS commands and scripting
  • Demonstrated proven ability to communicate with influence, establish positive stakeholder relationships whilst always remaining fully customer focused
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team providing high level guidance, leadership and mentorship
  • Working knowledge of the Higher Education sector is desirable

Note: Some after-hours and occasional weekend work may be required.
