About the Role

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, in partnership with the Melbourne Energy Institute, is seeking to appoint three Lecturers/Senior Lecturers in Power Generation and Propulsion. These positions would suit early-career academics with expertise in:

  • power generation and propulsion, including both numerical and experimental approaches to the study of land, sea and air based systems or
  • cognate technology areas that are critical to Australia’s transition to a cleaner energy future

The successful candidates will make a significant contribution to the teaching, research and administration of the Department. You will teach in graduate and undergraduate programs and take on administrative roles commensurate with the position. You will be a current or aspiring leader in international-quality research, with publications in high quality journals and conferences, and capacity to mentor research students and secure independent external grant and industry funding to support a program of research.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinate and conduct lectures and tutorials at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including engagement in teaching innovation and improvement; 
  • Provide a significant degree of scholarly research initiative and collaboration in the specific discipline;
  • Build and foster partnerships with industry, government, collaborators at other Universities and other stakeholders that contribute to the engagement of teaching and research in the wider community engagement.

Who We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate for this role is a dynamic academic with expertise in power generation and propulsion or related fields, demonstrating leadership in research, a strong publication record, and a passion for mentoring students and contributing to the academic community. You should also exhibit strong collaboration skills, a commitment to excellence in teaching, and a proactive approach to securing research grants and exploring innovative advancements in your field.

You will also have:

  • A PhD in power generation or propulsion;
  • Demonstrated ability to perform independent research evidenced through a track record of publications in high-impact peer-reviewed and refereed journals;
  • Demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary research.

The successful candidates must hold or be willing to obtain a valid Working with Children Check to ensure the University provides a safe environment for everyone.

For the information of overseas candidates, Lecturer/Senior Lecturer designation is equivalent to Assistant Professor in North American institutions. Superannuation is a contribution to a retirement savings fund with 17% being well above the 11% minimum required of Employers.
