Exciting opportunity for an academic with strong industry links to develop and contribute to innovative and impactful teaching and placement program in exercise and sports science

THE ROLE

  • Salary Package: Level B from $115,787 to $136,995 p.a. or Level C from $141,376 to $162,584 plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading

  • Appointment Type: full-time, continuing

  • Located at Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde)

We are seeking a highly motivated ESSA accredited practitioner with extensive professional and clinical education experience to join our department as Lecturer or Senior Lecturer – Technical, Industry, Commercial Academic. You will utilise your professional and industry experience to make a critical contribution to the development and delivery of teaching and clinical placement opportunities within our Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science degree.

You will possess a tertiary qualification in exercise science and be interested in sharing your professional and industry experience to make a critical contribution to the development and delivery of learning and teaching within the exercise and sports science course. You will have a current history of industry networks and be excellent at creating and maintaining professional networks.

The Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS) is ambitiously pushing the boundaries of progressive thinking and challenging what’s possible to solve some of the big issues of our time, both nationally and on a global scale.

The Faculty’s current education suite includes courses in exercise and sports science, clinical science, physiotherapy, medicine and public health, psychology, cognitive sciences, linguistics, audiology, and speech pathology. The Faculty forms part of MQ Health, an integrated academic health sciences enterprise which incorporates Macquarie University Hospital and primary and speciality clinics. We have active research programs in exercise and sports science, neurosciences, health systems and patient safety research, cancer medicine, and clinical sciences, amongst others. The Department of Health Sciences comprises academics and researchers from exercise and sports science, physiotherapy, population health, and lymphoedema management. In research, the department includes the Biomechanics, Physical Performance, and Exercise (BioPPEx) research group, a multi-disciplinary group that focuses on improving performance and decreasing injuries in humans.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Tertiary qualification in exercise science or sports science

  • Current Exercise Science, Sports Science, and/or Exercise Physiology accreditation with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA)

  • Evidence of a strong professional network in Sydney and the surrounding area with sports and exercise science stakeholders e.g., community and professional sporting organisations, exercise physiology clinics

  • Demonstrated success in the development (Level C) and delivery of innovative exercise and sports science placement programs including supporting and/or supervising students on placements

  • Excellent sports and exercise practitioner and professional skills and experience, including evidence of positive student outcomes and reflective practice in educating students

  • Proven capacity to lead (Level C), and operate effectively within a team

Desirable

  • Experience teaching into the exercise and sports science disciplines e.g., exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor control, strength and conditioning

  • A PhD in an area related to exercise and sports science (ideally with a focus on the key teaching areas), or demonstrated equivalent experience (Level C)

Specific role requirements (only if relevant to job)

This position requires you to have legal working rights in Australia.

Employment in this position is conditional upon holding a Working with Children Check Clearance.

This position requires you to comply with occupational screening, assessment and vaccinations in line with Macquarie University health requirements and requires a current and valid Working with Children Check Clearance for NSW.  You may also have to satisfy Macquarie University that you meet all background checks (including criminal record and qualification checks).
