About the Role

The College of Science and Engineering is seeking a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Robotics Engineering to join its talented academic staff at Flinders University. The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer will produce quality research and deliver undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching in engineering, with particular emphasis on areas related to AI and machine learning applied to robotic and autonomous systems, as well as contributing to current Flinders Engineering research strengths in Defence and related areas.

Robotics Engineering at Flinders University is growing and is a key part of the Centre for Defence Engineering Research and Training which has a well-established research track record and advanced lab facilities in autonomous systems, and the Factory of the Future , a world-class advanced manufacturing test facility that is one of the first of its kind in Australia.

In this Teaching & Research (Balanced) position, key responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering of ethical, high quality and innovative research through activities such as quality publications, external grant acquisition, scholarship and presentation that aligns with the College’s areas of research strength in Defence or any other related areas.

  • Planning, delivering, and evaluating of teaching primarily within the suite of undergraduate and/or postgraduate topics/courses in engineering, through topic coordination, delivery of lectures, tutorials, laboratories, placements or other contemporary teaching strategies.

  • Building and maintaining strategic relationships and networks with a range of stakeholders including industry and professional associations and organisations.

About You

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong track record of industry collaboration, teaching excellence and winning research grants within the area of robotics engineering. As an innovative leader within teaching and research, you will strive to grow the reputation of research in robotics engineering and demonstrate a student-focused approach to maximise learning outcomes.

Candidates will be determined to be suitable for Level B or Level C positions depending on their relevant experience. In this position, you will also demonstrate:

  • Completion of a PhD, or equivalent qualification in engineering or related discipline(s).

  • Significant track record and demonstrated evidence of, or capacity to, undertake high quality teaching in a range of engineering topics in a tertiary environment, including involvement in topic coordination and curriculum design.

  • Demonstrated evidence of a strong research track record (for career stage) in an area of engineering related to robotics engineering including evidence of quality publications and attraction of external competitive grants.

  • Significant demonstrated teaching experience in at least one of the following:

    • I. Electronics

    • II. Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence

    • III. Robotics/Automation

  • Be in possession of, or be eligible to obtain, Defence clearance at Baseline level or above.
