Exciting opportunity for a Teaching & Leadership academic to develop and contribute to innovative and impactful teaching in exercise and sports science

THE ROLE

  • Salary Package: Level B from $115,787 to $136,995 p.a. or Level C from $141,376 to $162,584 plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading

  • Appointment Type: full-time, continuing

  • Located at Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde)

We are seeking a highly motivated exercise/sports scientist to join our department as Lecturer or Senior Lecturer for appointment to the Teaching and Leadership academic job family. Ideally you will have expertise in teaching and/or research in a mix of sports psychology, nutrition, public health, physical activity as relevant for an Exercise Scientist.

The Teaching & Leadership academic will contribute to the development and delivery of teaching within exercise and sports science units. You will be required to further develop existing and newly developed units that contribute to the ESSA standards for Exercise Science required for accreditation. The Teaching & Leadership Academic is a specialist teaching and leadership role for academic staff who demonstrate excellence in teaching and leadership. As a specialist role, Teaching & Leadership Academic staff dedicate their workload contribution to Teaching, Teaching Leadership, and Service. Higher degree research supervision may also form a part of teaching-related activities in this job family.

About You

You will be actively engaged in exercise and sports science, research and/or education, ideally with teaching experience in sports psychology, nutrition, public health, physical activity; you may also be able to contribute to the other sub-disciplines of exercise and sports science. You will also have experience with, or a willingness to embrace, educational technology, blended learning and educational innovation. In addition, ideally you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the integration between research/practice and quality teaching, and how this integration can enhance student engagement.

The Faculty’s current education suite includes courses in exercise and sports science, clinical science, physiotherapy, medicine and public health, psychology, cognitive sciences, linguistics, audiology, and speech pathology. We have active research programs in exercise and sports science, neurosciences, health systems and patient safety research, cancer medicine, and clinical sciences, amongst others. The

Department of Health Sciences comprises academics and researchers from exercise and sports science, physiotherapy, population health, and lymphoedema management. In research, the department includes the Biomechanics, Physical Performance, and Exercise (BioPPEx) research group, a multi-disciplinary group that focuses on improving performance and decreasing injuries in humans.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • A PhD in an area related to exercise and sports science (ideally with a focus on the key teaching areas), or demonstrated equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated academic knowledge in exercise and sports science with expertise in sports psychology, nutrition, public health, and/or physical activity

  • Demonstrated experience to deliver high-quality learning and teaching in exercise and sports science, including the design, delivery, and management of online content, lectures, tutorials, and assessments

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to relate to staff and students from all backgrounds, work effectively in a team environment, and to represent the faculty to external stakeholders and the general public

  • Demonstrated success in the academic leadership in the delivery/development of units and/or courses using innovative approaches, including evidence of positive outcomes (Level C)

  • Experience with research student supervision (Level C)

Desirable

  • ESSA accreditation as an Exercise Scientist, Sports Scientist, and/or Exercise Physiologist

  • Demonstrated engagement and contribution to the exercise science practice through industry partnerships, consulting, advocacy, education, or research development

  • A well-articulated research agenda and a track record of publications in high-quality journals (Level C)

Specific role requirements

This position requires you to have legal working rights in Australia.

Employment in this position is conditional upon holding a Working with Children Check Clearance.

This position requires you to comply with occupational screening, assessment and vaccinations in line with Macquarie University health requirements and requires a current and valid Working with Children Check Clearance for NSW.  You may also have to satisfy Macquarie University that you meet all background checks (including criminal record and qualification checks).
