This role is an exciting opportunity to work between the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) and the Department of Health in Tasmania to contribute to midwifery leadership and provide UniSQ’s midwifery programs in Tasmania.  You will work remotely, including from the Offices of the Chief Nurse and Midwife (Tasmania), based in Hobart, and travel to key sites in Tasmania.

This teaching-focused role supports the progression of midwifery practice, education and training, research, and strategic midwifery workforce initiatives across Tasmania.

What you’ll do:

A key component of this role will be to provide ongoing education and support to UniSQ’s Bachelor of Midwifery students in Tasmania, which will include face-to-face delivery of residential schools and teaching online for the Bachelor of Midwifery.  You will provide ongoing academic support and advice to students and be involved in a range of promotional activities for UniSQ and for the Office of the Chief Nurse/Midwife. You will also liaise with Midwifery educators in health services within Tasmania in relation to the clinical education component of the Bachelor of Midwifery.  

Your ability to work collaboratively and collegially with fellow academics, professional staff and a range of external stakeholders will be complemented by your well-developed interpersonal skills, strong organisational ability and commitment to delivering quality teaching in your area of expertise.

What will help you succeed:

In addition to a Master or PhD qualification and Registered Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA), you will be able to demonstrate,

  • strong midwifery clinical background, with the capacity to facilitate high quality midwifery care and clinical education;
  • capacity and preparedness to maintain clinical currency in midwifery;
  • a record of teaching excellence, with capability to teach successfully into the pre-registration nursing program, incorporating contemporary approaches to pedagogy;
  • knowledge of national and international midwifery education and workforce trends and experience in developing strategies for midwifery education and training; and
  • ability to lead community and professional development initiatives relevant to midwifery.

Salary: Total remuneration range $63,521 to $75,080 pa (includes salary range of $53,703 to $63,439 pa, employer super contributions of 17% and annual leave loading)
