About This Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer to focus their efforts on growing their profile in teaching, research and service and engagement. We seek candidates who have a strong interest, and track record in, collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and in Indigenising curriculum in health and social work. At this level, you may coordinate or lead the activities of other staff and contribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students. As a teaching and research academic at Level B, you will aspire to achieve national recognition in your field of research.

This is a full-time (100%), continuing position. At Academic level B, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $108,201 - $128,201, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $126,595 - $149,996 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

About You

The University of Queensland considers that being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991(Qld). The position is therefore only open to Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.   

The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.  

  • Completion or near completion of a PhD in a relevant field (Social Work or cognate disciplines).

  • A growing profile in teaching and research in the discipline area.

  • Preference will be given to candidates who can assist the Social Work team and the School in Indigenising our curriculum with a strong track record working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. 

  • A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

  • Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining, and managing external research funding.

  • Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate level across a variety of settings, including small and large groups.

  • Experience in course coordination and contribution to the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area.

  • A growing record, or capacity to develop a record, of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.

  • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.

In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:

  • AASW Membership: It is a requirement of this position that the incumbent holds and maintains a full professional qualification that means they are eligible for registration with the Australian Association of Social Work (AASW).
