About the Role 
We have an exciting opportunity available within the Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health Sciences (FMDHS) for an experienced professional. The role is based at The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, a world-class institute combining research, teaching, public health, and clinical care. You'll work closely with academic and professional managers, contributing to the safe and effective delivery of laboratory and office spaces, making a significant impact on public health and diagnostic activities.  

The position require the ability to navigate a complex organisational structure and shared services model while leading laboratory compliance programs, making them unique and rewarding opportunities for the right candidates. 

Your responsibilities will include: 


  • Laboratory Management: Oversee licenses, permits, and regulatory compliance for laboratory facilities, ensuring adherence to safety standards and streamlined processes. 

  • Safety, Compliance, and Risk Management: Develop safety objectives, risk assessments, and standard procedures, provide OHS training, conduct audits and investigations, and collaborate with key partners. 

  • Relationship Management: Establish strong relationships with facility users, operations teams, and stakeholders, working collaboratively to implement compliance strategies and projects. 


Who We Are Looking For 
You are the person we're looking for if you have excellent interpersonal skills, and can consult, influence, and build rapport effectively. You're also known for your proven organisational skills, capable of balancing multiple demands and working to deadlines. 

You will also have: 


  • Hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as science and occupational health and safety (OH&S). 

  • Demonstrate substantial experience working within scientific or medical laboratory environments and the ability to coordinate personnel effectively in a matrix environment. 

  • Exhibit a strong understanding of occupational health and safety legislation, as well as laboratory regulatory and statutory requirements. Prove the ability to propose practical solutions for OHS and laboratory issues, considering legislation, standards, and guidance materials.

This position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check to ensure the University provides a safe environment for everyone.
