About This Opportunity 

The Kinnane Endowment Fund Internship has been created to provide relevant work and industry experience in a museum and university environment. Particularly, this internship aims to foster candidates with an interest in working with audiences and designing programming that expands visitors’ engagement with art.

Under the mentorship of the Senior Team Leader, Education and Public Programs, this internship provides experience in developing programming and events at UQ Art Museum. The Kinnane Programming Internship provides the opportunity for a UQ student to assist the Public Programs team research, concept development, logistics, admin and facilitation of Public Programs held at the UQ Art Museum.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Using a variety of sources to assist with researching and developing Public Programs at the UQ Art Museum

  • Assisting with the development of resources and activities associated with audiences and programs that engage Museum visitors

  • Providing administrative support to the Senior Team Leader, Education and Public Programs team and undertaking other duties as required

This is a casual position for 2 days per week for approximately 40 weeks at HEW level 1, with an hourly rate in the range of $37.16 to $38.65, plus superannuation of 11%. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year. This role offers flexible working arrangements and hours may vary from week to week.


About You  

  • Currently undertaking an Art History or Museum Studies degree at the University of Queensland.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people by telephone, email and in person. 

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work in audience facing contexts. 

  • Ability to use computer applications in a networked environment, in a large- to medium-sized organisation, or the demonstrated ability to acquire such skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge or interest in programming and events in Art Museums.  

In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:

  • Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
