About the role 

We are recruiting a Research Associate / Postdoctoral Research Fellow to conduct research on telecommunications engineering and network technologies, particularly on innovation in infrastructure build and remediation techniques, including pit and pipe robotics, civil asset management, digital asset management and novel techniques for building and remediation of national telecommunications infrastructure.

This position will work in the newly formed Broadband Technology Research Unit (BTRU) in the faculty of Engineering and information technology. This research unit funded by industry and UTS over a 5-year programme to establish a world-class research team in telecommunications and broadband technology that drives innovation, applied research, and industry collaboration to benefit society and empower graduates with cutting-edge, industry relevant skills and knowledge. With access to a production telecommunications nationwide network and associated data as well as close collaboration with industry peers this position will suit candidates seeking to make impact with their research and very close industry co-operation.

In this role you will be responsible for supervising PhD students, establish effective research collaborations with both industrial and academic partners, publish research papers and participate in research grant applications.

About you 

As a Research Associate / Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, as well as analyse and solve problems.  To be successful in this role you will have considerable experience in robotics, civil infrastructure, inventory management systems and data, and/or data analytics and tools. 

Other requirements will include:

PhD in civil, mechanical or robotic engineering

Experience in numerical simulation at both system and algorithm levels using tools such as Matlab, C, Python, and/or Simulink

Strong record of research achievement / publication track record.
