About This Opportunity 

An excellent opportunity is available for an exceptional and experienced Manager to provide leadership and management of the Institute of Modern Languages (IML). In this leadership role, you will determine how IML maintain its position as an outstanding language learning provider for the community and manage its resources to achieve great outcomes. The role requires maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders; ensuring effective marketing, operations and language course delivery, and requires experience in managing human, financial and other resources and in identifying new opportunities.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provides high-level strategic advice and support to senior Faculty staff on all matters pertaining to the sustainable operations, financial management and business processes of the Institute as a quality language learning centre for the benefit of the community

  • Build and maintain on-going relationships with key internal and external stakeholders through consultation and engagement as required, in order to establish and deliver strategic priorities, financial objectives and successful programs/projects

  • Manages planning, governance, budgeting, resource management and workforce processes for language education and services

  • Develop and implements business improvement initiatives focused on providing high quality and streamlined services

  • Develop, review and monitor performance to inform strategy and operations and optimise achievement of business and language learning outcomes

  • Working in partnership with key external and internal stakeholders, identify business development opportunities, strategies and initiatives that support the objectives of the Institute

  • Ensure compliance with UQ policies and procedures, governance protocols, and risk management frameworks, as well as any legislative requirements

  • Monitor industry and community needs and corporate best-practice, to support the delivery of strategic aims

  • Work with relevant stakeholders to efficiently manage the relationships and outcomes

  • Scan market intelligence for future development opportunities, gathering, analysing and interpreting data, and submitting tenders as appropriate

  • Act as spokesperson and advocate for the IML in the community.

Leadership and Management

  • Lead and manage staff in accordance with ‘Manager’ level of UQ’s Leadership framework.

This is a full-time, continuing position.  

At HEW level 9, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $124,996 - $132,885, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $146,246 - $154,657 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.


About You  

  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline; and extensive relevant experience; or extensive management experience and proven expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Substantial knowledge of and experience with development and innovation processes, with significant experience in project management, financial management and associated business reporting

  • The ability to deliver outcomes under pressure and working to constant concurrent deadlines

  • Highly developed interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to build both internal and external relationships and networks with key stakeholders

  • Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation, review and continuous improvement of systems and processes to deliver effective services.

  • Demonstrated ability to work iteratively, adapting quickly to change and operating effectively both on an autonomous basis and as a member of a client-focused team

  • A demonstrated ability to lead a high-performing team of  education and administrative professionals in role of similar size and scope in a Business

Desirable

  • Language learning experience and skills are highly desirable

  • Working knowledge of University administrative systems, policies and procedures or the capacity to rapidly acquire this knowledge

  • Education and language learning knowledge and experience
