As an Indigenous Librarianship Cadet you will:

Work across teams to understand how to make library description practices more inclusive and discoverable. You will work with our Indigenous communities to elevate Indigenous Knowledges and to increase cultural intelligence for our Deakin community.  

You will gain on-the-job-training and experience across all areas of Library Services including Indigenous Programs, Experience and Engagement, Collections, Outreach and Scholarly Services and Information.

In a typical week you will:

  • Coordinate, support, and provide advice to Deakin staff and students in relation to Library activities and how the library’s Indigenous Programs supports Deakin strategies and activities.
  • Collaborate with Indigenous communities to increase understanding and cultural intelligence related to the Indigenous communities where our campuses are located.
  • Support the Library with local events, visitors, delegates, forums and activities.
  • Provide support for a range of library activities, resource planning, standards, operations coordination, and logistics.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Completion of (or near completion of) a Degree, or undertaking a higher degree by research without subsequent relevant work experience; or
  • Completion of an Associate Diploma and at least two years subsequent relevant work experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • A commitment to working in libraries and/or cultural heritage contexts (highly desirable).
  • Ability to work with First Nations people, community groups and Traditional Owners to deliver projects, programs or services.
