UNSW Estate Management (EM) provides a range of services and advice to all Faculties and Divisions on all UNSW campuses. It does this by providing campus planning, infrastructure planning, development, construction, refurbishment, maintenance and environmental management. EM also provides a wide range of logistical and associated services to ensure a safe and secure campus environment.

Why your Role Matters
As Head of Design, you will work with Development and Asset Management Teams to lead and manage the design reviews of major projects, public domain and landscaping projects, refurbishments across the property portfolio, teaching and learning spaces, major and minor builds and all other design-related work that adds to and enhances the University campus experience.

Reporting to the Director of Design, Delivery & Development, you will act as a subject matter expert in design management as well as delivery and governance standards across your portfolio at UNSW. You will also ensure the UNSW Design Standards are reviewed regularly, coordinated, and kept current to align with UNSW strategies, guidelines, and industry standards. These Design Standards cover areas such as Architectural standards, Sustainability, Safety in Design, Engineering, Building Technology and are critical to the success of UNSW’s capital works programs.

Skills & Experience summary:
You will hold a relevant qualification in design and architecture, or equivalent level of knowledge and relevant experience alongside:

  • Proven advanced design management experience across multiple workflows and deadlines.
  • Practiced ability in solving complex design challenges within large scale property development planning.
  • Extensive experience in design management related matters within project parameters.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate both strategically and operationally and articulate a clear vision.
  • Confidence engaging and managing internal and external design teams across a large and complex portfolio.
  • Experience in researching, analysing and preparing succinct reports.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications applicable to planning, reporting and delivery.
