The Finance Officer will play a crucial role in supporting our Infrastructure and Facilities Services (IFS) unit in all finance-related aspects. This role will primarily focus on enhancing finance-related business planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, analysis, processing, and training initiatives. The Finance Officer will work closely with the central finance team to develop and implement financial processes that ensure accuracy, efficiency, and strong internal controls over income streams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing descriptive, complex, and insightful business analysis for the IFS leadership team and other stakeholders as required.
  • Utiising complex data analysis techniques for business reports, presentations, and ad hoc requests.
  • Facilitating the delivery of client-focused business support and reporting services across IFS to aid the interpretation of financial performance.
  • Preparing and compiling data, tailoring presentations and reports for ease of interpretation by stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with the IFS leadership team to develop comprehensive budgets and budget re-forecasts.
  • Providing ongoing education to IFS budget owners and business system users, ensuring compliance with company policies and processes.
  • Facilitating end-of-month/year processes for all business areas within IFS in accordance with relevant standards.
  • Supporting the timely completion of transactional processes associated with the ongoing operation of IFS, including purchase requisitions, invoicing, reconciliations, etc.
  • Providing comprehensive system and process support and training to users of TechOne and EAM.
  • Assisting with accurate collection of revenue through all IFS income streams and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Modelling and communicating periodic adjustments to rates and fees for University of Newcastle tenants and maintain an accurate database of rates and fees. 

This continuing position is full time at a HEW 7 Higher Education Level and will be based at Callaghan Campus (Awabakal and Worimi land).

About the Unit

The Infrastructure and Facilities Services (IFS) unit is part of the Resources Division, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. IFS delivers strategic campus and asset planning, development of new infrastructure and the maintenance of existing facilities. In addition, IFS provides a comprehensive range of campus services including retail facilities and property services. IFS aims to develop and operate campuses and services that support education, research and community engagement.

  • A degree with a finance/accounting component or similar with at least four (4) years subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience and specialist expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Demonstrate expertise in developing processes relating to financial management and delivering relevant communication and training to a broad range of stakeholders. 
  • Provide complex financial reports individually tailored to a range of stakeholders. 
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to use judgment and manage multiple projects and prioritise workflows. 
  • Proven capacity to develop and foster strong relationships with corporate partners.
