External Engagement Manager – Medicine & Health

  • Employment Type: Full time (35 hours per week)
  • Duration: 12-month parental leave cover
  • Remuneration: Level 9 $138,171 - $146,613 (depending on experience) + 17% super + leave loading
  • Location:  Kensington, NSW (Hybrid Working)

Why Your Role Matters:
The External Engagement and Alumni Experience Team helps faculties of the University to build their reputation and networks of influence and tell the stories of the research and educational excellence that UNSW is known for. In close collaboration with the faculty executive and corporate teams, the External Engagement team is responsible for setting and executing the communications strategy for their faculty and planning and delivering external engagement activity including: delivering events; alumni experience initiatives; sourcing, writing and placing News & Content and internal Communications.

This position will support the Faculty of Medicine & Health: dedicated to the future of health, UNSW Medicine & Health is not only one of Australia’s leading medical faculties, but one of the top 50 in the world. Our research strengths are reflected across our schools, world-class research centres and institutes, our affiliations with Australia’s most innovative medical research institutes, and our state-of-the-art teaching hospitals and facilities.

You’ll collaborate closely with faculty stakeholders on delivering external engagement activities locally and will have the support of a passionate, hard-working, multi-disciplinary team including an Events & Internal Communication Coordinator, News & Content Coordinator and Alumni Engagement Coordinator (direct reports) who actively collaborate towards the goal of reaching key audiences to increase engagement an strengthen the UNSW brand as a research and education leader.

 Responsibilities:

  • Deliver on the strategic direction for faculty priority external engagement projects.
  • Lead a Team covering events, internal comms, news and content and alumni engagement activities ensuring outputs align with Faculty’s priorities.
  • Work collaboratively with a team of Communication professionals in other faculties on UNSW projects and continuing to position the team as subject matter experts.
  • Direct team and manage resources to support web projects and social media platforms.
  • Build and maintain highly effective working relationships with the centrally managed functions.
  • Prepare and coordinate the bi-monthly External Engagement Committee.
  • Ensure a ‘OneUNSW’ approach is taken to developing strategy and implementing quality standards.
  • Coordination of key ‘community building’ activities within the faculty, playing a ‘hands-on’ role.

Who You Are:

  • A relevant tertiary degree coupled with experience executing innovative external engagement plans.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly adaptable, collaborative, and consultative manner.
  • Proven experience increasing an organisation’s profile via external engagement activities.
  • A confident communicator and collaborator with excellent presentation skills.
  • Previous experience or a passion for health & medicine related field highly regarded.
  • Someone who can develop and inspire a team while also getting involved in the day-to-day.
