About the role

The Executive Director, People Advisory & Assurance reports to the Chief People Officer and is a critical member of the People Executive team.

Responsible for leading the People and Advisory Assurance portfolio, this role provides high quality strategic HR advice, practices, systems and frameworks that enable RMIT to meet its people related legislative obligations and manage its people related risks. This role leads the coordinated and effective delivery of People Services, Health Safety & Wellbeing and Workplace Relations services.

This role will set the University’s people related risk appetites and provide thought leadership to build an empowered and resilient workforce and drive improved outcomes.

The People Advisory & Assurance comprises the following centres of expertise –

  • Policy & Workplace Relations (Industrial Relations strategy, Policy & Compliance management, Enterprise Bargaining, Employee Case management and Union relationships) 

  • Health, Safety & Wellbeing (Occupational Health & Safety, Policy & Compliance management, Safer Communities for staff and students, Gender Based Violence Prevention, Workers Compensation and Return to Work and Psychological Safety & Wellbeing)

  • People Services (Payroll, Operations, Contracts and People Advisory Services)

This role requires considerable influence to enable the People Strategy and to reform the risk management and service delivery experience and will closely collaborate with senior executives across the University to enable this change. 

To be successful in this position, you’ll have

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing enterprise-wide strategies in the areas of Workplace Relations and Health, Safety & Wellbeing with measurable outcomes.

  • Extensive experience in leading integrated risk and assurance functions in a large organisation

  • A thorough working knowledge of relevant health & safety, industrial relations and people operations legislative obligations

  • Proven ability to design and deliver integrated people and operational transformation programs.

  • Exceptional influencing and relationship-building skills, including evidence of the capacity to engage core stakeholders across a complex and diverse organisation to drive outcomes.

  • A record of success as a trusted advisor to Senior Executives, with extensive experience in designing strategies to drive organisational effectiveness that are pragmatic, innovative and outcomes focused.

  • Possesses robust commercial acumen in decision making and advice.
