THE ROLE

We are seeking a dynamic Enterprise Information Architect who has extensive experience providing architectural governance and IT strategic direction in support of business and IT capability areas related to information management, analytics, and data. This role is part of a team that provides IT strategy and architecture services to the University. We work closely with our Chief Data Officer and directly with business intelligence, IT operations, and project delivery teams to ensure our information assets and enabling technology investments are aligned with the University’s strategic objectives and plans.

The University is on an ambitious digital transformation journey, and this is a rare opportunity to be responsible for shaping the delivery of the University’s vision for our information and data landscape.

This role is responsible for defining and managing the enterprise architectural plan for information, data, and integration, including the development of roadmaps, business cases and investment proposals that will be required to realise associated business benefit. Associated with this will be work to support solution architects to scope, price, and design solutions associated with our enterprise information platforms (including data warehouse, data lake, integration platforms, data catalogue, and master data management) across both MQ University and MQ Health.

Their role in information management governance extends from supporting scoping and planning for new initiatives and programs of work so as to facilitate early identification of impacts on strategic data assets; to participating in the Architecture Review Board in order to ensure that solution architectures adhere to principles, design, and documentation standards from a data perspective, and adequately address impacts to strategic data assets; to chairing the Data Design Authority that is responsible for oversight and management of our enterprise information platforms.

About You

You will be a highly experienced Senior Information Architect or Enterprise Information Architect, ideally with experience in the higher education or the public sector, having worked either in-house or as a seasoned consultant to notable organisations of comparable size and complexity to Macquarie University.

Your specific experience will have included major digital transformation programs in complex heterogenous environments, and familiarity with master data management implementation projects would be a plus. You will be knowledgeable of contemporary technologies and best practice, themes and issues in information management and architecture, and be able to provide expert advice to inform decisions regarding new initiatives, including innovation, change, business improvement and investment. Whilst not essential, experience with the implementation of data privacy and information classification controls will also be highly regarded.

You will have a solid understanding of sound architectural method and experience in leading others in improving architectural practice maturity and the practical adoption of architectural best practice and frameworks such as TOGAF. You will have experience undertaking strategic planning in consultation with the business, and have well-developed skills in stakeholder management and executive communications.

You will be a self-starter and enjoy working in a dynamic environment as a team player, are motivated by the outcomes and challenges of owning and driving the sustainability and success of a highly critical portfolio, with a methodical and consultative approach in your work.

  • Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience with demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Demonstrated experience influencing and building strong relationships and managing diverse stakeholder expectations and competing interests to position the IT function as a strategic partner and enabler of reform within a complex business environment
  • Significant expertise in the relevant portfolio and demonstrated knowledge of contemporary best practice, trends, and issues impacting business models and technology enablement that are applicable to that portfolio
  • Demonstrated experience with the development of IT portfolio architectures, technology roadmaps and standards aligned with IT and business strategy
  • Proven ability to provide technical design assurance over both internally produced and third-party solution architecture and systems design deliverables to ensure fitness for purpose and compliance with standards within a complex and formalised environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of architectural method and standard architectural frameworks, and experience with their application in a complex enterprise environment, which may be supported by relevant certifications (such as TOGAF)
