Curtin University Early Learning Centre has a vacancy for an outstanding practitioner to fill the role of Team Leader in a Toddler Room.


  • $77,746 + $85,046 (G05) pro-rata plus 17% superannuation

The incumbent must have Australian recognised Early Childhood qualifications, Diploma or above, experience as a room practitioner and leadership experience desirable.

Your new role  

The Curtin University Early Childhood Centre rated as exceeding by the Education and Care Regulatory Unit (ECRU) provides an aesthetically pleasing and nurturing learning environment for children 0 - 5 years. Situated on the Curtin University Bentley campus, the centre has a diverse community of many nationalities catering for children of Curtin students, staff and the wider community.
We are looking for a passionate Team Leader to drive the exceeding rating in all 7 of the NQF Quality areas. The Candidate will build positive relationships with families and community, have a deep understanding of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), and a creative approach to the learning cycles, providing educational opportunities for children to develop and learn.
In this role, you will, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and maintaining an effective team approach to the organisation and operations of the designated room.
  • Using the Centre’s Curriculum Guide coordinate the planning, delivery and evaluation of the children’s program.
  • Supervising, motivating and encouraging staff and students within the Centre working to promote team effectiveness.
  • Ensuring all records are maintained in accordance with the Centre’s policies and regulations.
  • Assisting with the review and development of the policies and procedures that effect the operations of the Centre as required.
  • Attending and encouraging other team members to attend staff meetings and training as required.
  • Following policy and practices on safety precautions regarding the security of children in the grounds and buildings.
  • Ensuring that supervision strategies that protect children are maintained.
  • Ensuring all safety hazards in the environment are eliminated.
Selection Criteria:
  • Completion of an approved Diploma in Children Service, Degree in Early Childhood or Children Service or equivalent
  • At least 1 year working experience in a Diploma qualified (or equivalent) position in a children’s service environment
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a team, prioritise work and achieve outcomes in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated well-developed skills in both verbal and written communication
  • Proven experience in providing an environment that meets the needs of young children according to National Quality Standards and the Early Years Learning Framework
  • Demonstrated experience in developing individual and group programs for children
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing a healthy and safe children's services environment
  • Proven ability to use tact and discretion
  • It is expected that the candidates have a willingness to work with all age groups and to work shifts within the operating hours of 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
