About This Opportunity 

As the Director of Institute Operations (DIO), you will be at the forefront of strategic management, providing high-level oversight of the Institute's scientific, technical, and administrative functions. This multifaceted role encompasses leadership in information technology, research grants administration, research partnerships, infrastructure, occupational health, safety and wellness, marketing and communications, and executive support.

In collaboration with central functions, you will manage the financial landscape, ensuring effective allocation and oversight of the Institute's annual Operating Budget and three-year forward projections. Your role is not confined to internal affairs; you will play a crucial part in the management of the Queensland Biosciences Precinct (QBP), including formulating and overseeing the QBP annual operating budget, and chairing the QBP Operations Committee.

Key responsibilities include offering strategic advice on operational management issues, contributing to the Institute's strategic plan, and supporting the attraction of major research funding. Your expertise will be instrumental in meeting reporting requirements to both the State Government and University Management, encompassing milestone reporting, operational plans, risk registers, and internal audits.

As the DIO, you will be a linchpin in shaping the Institute's future, contributing to its standing and fostering effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders.


About You  

The successful candidate will demonstrate executive operational leadership experience, ideally gained in a complex tertiary research institution or similar organisation. You will have a breadth of experience in organisational management including operational strategy development and execution along with experience with facilitates, finance, IT and human resource management.

You will have a natural inclination towards collaboration to achieve large scale outcomes, with demonstrated experience working across all levels of an organisation. Externally facing, you will have experience interfacing with all levels of government and diplomatic figures.

You will be a strategic communicator, with the ability to translate complex ideas to tangible and actionable operational outcomes.

The successful candidate may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks.
