Cyber Risk and Resilience is the capability within VP Services that ensures effective risk and security management of Monash information systems, infrastructure and networks. We lead security testing and readiness monitoring across the University and work closely with the University’s Internal Audit, Risk and Compliance Offices.

The Opportunity

The Cyber Security Systems Analyst is responsible for enabling the Monash Cyber Operation teams to protect our networks, systems, and data using industry-leading technology to combat advanced attackers. They will proactively identify and mitigate security risks, respond to incidents with precision, and conduct digital forensics investigations when necessary. The position also contributes to the continual improvement of security measures and the resolution of security-related incidents.

The Analyst operates with excellence and expertise in process and judgement to provide sound and timely advice and support to clients, staff and other stakeholders. The position will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement security measures, stay informed about emerging threats, and execute incident response plans to protect our systems and data effectively.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A security-related certificate(s) such as (GIAC, vendor-specific etc); and ITIL Foundation certification or above
  • Experience in analysing security telemetry for signs of malicious activity and working with Security Information Event Management (SIEM) products for both detection and investigation purposes in a Security Operations Centre (SOC)
  • Prior experience working in the Security operations centre (SOC) or Digital Forensic and Incident Response (DF&IR) team and sound knowledge of cyber risk and security practices, networks, computer operating systems and common application platforms
  • Experience and ability to understand attacker tradecraft, including familiarity with MITRE ATT&CK framework and Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs), fine-tuning security alerts, rules, and indicators of compromise (IOCs) to identify malicious activities
  • Knowledge of specific operational impacts of cybersecurity lapses and cybersecurity and privacy principles and possess good technical background in cyber security tooling, including SIEM, network security (NGFW, IPS/IDS, WAF), endpoint security (EDR, XDR, DF, DLP), CD/CI pipeline, Automation (SOAR) and DFIR tools
