About the Role

RMIT Council, the governing body of the University, is seeking an external member to join the Audit and Risk Management Committee (ARMC). The ARMC assists the Council in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities under the RMIT Act. The primary responsibilities of the ARMC include reviewing financial statements, recommending the annual budget, monitoring financial performance, assessing risk management effectiveness, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies, and evaluating control systems.

About You

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work well in a group and express opinions respectfully.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to critically analyze a wide range of information.

  • Intellectual curiosity, good judgment, and a genuine interest or knowledge of the higher education sector or community organizations.

  • High ethical standards and integrity, with the ability to act in the best interest of the University.

  • Residing in Victoria is preferable.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Experience as an Audit Committee director (required).

  • Non-executive director experience or senior-level management experience in medium to large-scale organizations (required).

  • Financial qualifications/experience (required).

  • Tertiary education experience (valued).

Probity and Conduct

Applicants will undergo pre-appointment checks, including a National Police Records Check, Declaration of Private Interest, Australian Financial Security Authority (AGSA) National Personal Insolvency Index (NPII) check, and Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) Register of Persons Banned and Disqualified.

Responsibilities, if Appointed

  • Comply with the RMIT University Council Charter, Policies, and Code of Conduct.

  • Maintain confidentiality of information provided in the role.

  • Complete an induction program on duties and responsibilities as a Committee member and the university's operation.

  • Allocate sufficient time for Committee meeting preparation.

Time Commitment

  • Committee members serve a 3-year term, with the possibility of reappointment.

  • ARMC holds five meetings per year, with additional meetings if necessary. Meetings typically last 4-5 hours.

  • Minimum half-day reading time required before each ARMC meeting.
