About This Opportunity  

We are seeking a Coordinator, Environment and Sustainability to join the team. The position is responsible for leading multiple projects to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, risk assessment and tracking environmental compliance develop, implement and maintain programs and initiatives that enhance environmental protection, management and sustainability of the UQ community.  

This role can expect to focus primarily on environmental management and compliance matters associated with biodiversity, biosecurity (pest plants/animals), greenhouse gas emissions reporting and be involved in water and waste management, environment and sustainability strategy development, reporting, and sustainability engagement and behaviour change initiatives.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • With the direction of the Manager, Environment & Sustainability Programs, identify and prioritise areas for institutional environmental management and compliance efforts and recommend strategies for proactively addressing relevant sustainability issues.

  • Work with limited supervision to develop and execute projects and/ or programs to address environmental management and compliance issues.

  • Prepare project proposals and project scopes, and complete relevant procurement processes in order to implement these projects/programs.

  • Engage and manage consultants and contractors where required to ensure the cost effective and timely delivery of projects.

  • Engage and liaise with staff, students and other and other organisations (internal and external) to support the practical adoption and implementation of environmental management and compliance projects/programs on campus.

  • Liaise with a variety of internal and external organisations and government bodies to stay abreast of emerging trends, opportunities and funding options.

  • Work within a multi-disciplined teams to achieve outcomes within strict scopes and timeframes.

  • Work with relevant UQ stakeholders, to communicate the outcomes of environmental management and compliance and sustainability initiatives to internal and external audiences.

  • Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor.

This is a Full-time, Fixed term position up to 25 July 2025. At HEW Level 6, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range of $88,099.39 to $94,512.08 plus a generous super allowance of 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $103,076.28 to $110,579.13 per annum.  



About You
  • Completion of a Bachelor degree qualification in a relevant field such as Engineering, Environmental Management/Science, Business Management, or similar, with subsequent relevant work experience; or extensive experience and specialist expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the principles and processes related to environmental management and compliance matters associated with but not limited to biodiversity, biosecurity (pest plants/animals), environmental protection and greenhouse gas emissions. 

  • Further knowledge of water and waste management, and environmental and sustainability reporting would be highly desirable. 

  • Sound project and time management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and deliver projects on time and within budget, ability to prioritise projects and tasks, and adopt a strategic view of environmental management objectives.

  • Sound analytical skills and excellent report writing and presentation skills using a variety of media and communication tools. 

  • Ability to effectively engage colleagues in key processes and projects and to communicate and consult with individuals and groups with diverse backgrounds. 

  • Must possess a current open Queensland Driver’s license.
