About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinical psychologist to join the CAPS team and provide services to the University of Melbourne student and staff community.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • A high standard of psychological counselling including initial assessment, with an emphasis on identification and management of clients in high-risk situations, and appropriate referral and/or shorter-term treatment intervention
  • Participation in regular professional development and case-management/peer review processes to identify and address client management issues
  • A high standard of in person and online psychological service activities that are relevant to students and staff including workshops, therapeutic group interventions, mental health and wellbeing literacy programs, consultancy and other related programs.
  • Clinical supervision to clinical psychology intern and clinical psychology registrar counsellors.

Who we are looking for
We are looking for people who demonstrate professional autonomy and decision-making in relation to client assessment and management issues, including responding sensitively and creatively to complex presentations. You are interested in continuously developing your professional knowledge and skills including through regular case management and peer review processes.  You enjoy working within a supportive and friendly team and actively contribute to a team culture that fosters innovation, teamwork, high achievement, continuous improvement, and job satisfaction.  

You will also have:

  • Current registration as a psychologist with AHPRA, plus endorsement to practice in Clinical Psychology and as a PsyBoard approved supervisor.
  • Extensive post qualification experience in the provision of counselling and psychotherapeutic services, including with international students and people from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to plan, deliver and evaluate in person and online therapeutic group interventions, workshops and training programs, and to provide clinical supervision to clinical psychology interns and registrars on a clinical endorsement pathway.

Your new team – Counselling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides free psychological counselling and delivers a range of training and consultancy activities to University of Melbourne students and staff. The service is led by a Manager, with three Senior Counsellors, overseeing the day-to-day operation of the service and comprises around 30 people including Psychologists and Mental Health Social Workers, Clinical Psychology Registrars/Interns and two reception/administration staff.
