Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership: As Clinical Dean - General Practice, you'll ensure the delivery of high-quality and engaging clinical placements for our senior medical students.
  • Comprehensive Coordination: From overseeing early-year clinical experiences to recruiting a diverse network of GPs for placements, you'll ensure every aspect of the student experience is enriching and seamless.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain the integrity of learning across various sites, drive curriculum improvements, and provide essential pastoral care to support student well-being.
  • Academic Contribution: Engage in the creation of examination materials, assessments, and potentially in general practice-based teaching research.

The Curtin Medical School (CMS) includes the disciplines of Medicine, Laboratory Medicine, Pharmacy, Biomedical Science, and Medical Radiation Science. CMS forms part of the Faculty of Health Sciences and is affiliated with two research institutes; the Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute (CHIRI) and the enAble Institute for Health Science (enAble). The discipline of medicine headquarters is based out of a dedicated building on the University Bentley campus with tailored clinical teaching and simulation facilities.

Selection Criteria.
Essential:
  • A Medicine degree from a recognised institution and current unrestricted AHPRA registration.
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) or Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM).
  • Extensive clinical experience in General Practice, with a strong understanding of both metropolitan and rural healthcare settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain high clinical standards and adhere to professional ethical guidelines.
  • Proven track record in medical education, including designing, implementing, and evaluating clinical training programs for medical students.
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring medical students and junior doctors, with a focus on promoting critical thinking, clinical skills, and compassionate patient care.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including students, faculty, healthcare professionals, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to foster a collaborative and supportive educational environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion within the workplace and educational settings.
Desirable:
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement in clinical education, including curriculum development, assessment methodologies, and accreditation processes.
  • Faculty members are regularly engaged in research and QI projects. A background in general practice research, with contributions to the field through publications, presentations, or participation in research projects, would be highly desirable to support the activity of our current GP researchers.
  • Interest in and capacity for integrating research into teaching and curriculum development, enhancing the evidence-based practice skills of students.
