This role is sits within a specialised pay-confidence program within the Operations Division at UNSW.

Why your Role Matters
As Claims Officer, you’ll uphold UNSW’s commitment to identifying and resolving employee pay claims. Acting as first point of contact for queries, you’ll ensure claimants’ queries are addressed in a timely manner and all associated documentation is accurate and kept up to date throughout the process.

This role requires a high level of attention to detail and discretion. Previous experience in providing employee relations advisory services across pay claims would be beneficial as you play a key role in the investigation and resolution of claims received and remediated.

Working closely with the Claims Manager, you’ll to provide efficient day-to-day administrative and advisory support, furthering the team’s ability to achieve project deliverables and outcomes.

Accountabilities:

  • Act as first point of contact, monitoring claims channels and triaging requests.
  • Support the assessment of claims against UNSW’s obligations under its enterprise agreements, the Fair Work Act and other applicable regulatory instruments.
  • Provide recommendations on next steps in relation to substantiated claims and unsubstantiated claims.
  • Ensure that all associated documentation and approvals are recorded.
  • Report on claims received and remediated, highlighting trends or broader compliance issues identified.
  • Provide general provide efficient day-to-day administrative support across claims activities, furthering the team’s ability to support pay confidence.


Who you are summary:
You will hold a relevant qualification, or equivalent level of knowledge, and experience in providing advice on employee relations matters including conducting investigations into pay claims, alongside the following skills & experience:

  • Demonstrated consultation skills and proven ability to engage effectively.
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills and proven capacity to exercise initiative, flexibility and to be proactive in the development of robust solutions to problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to apply judgement, creativity, and flexibility to generate new and innovative ideas and approaches and to solve complex problems.
  • High level of experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities and meet competing deadlines, using judgement and initiative.
