About the team

The UWA Coastal and Offshore Research Laboratory (CORL) carries out world-class fundamental and applied research in the areas of hydrodynamics, fluid-structure interactions and sediment transport processes applicable to offshore and coastal engineering systems. CORL has a strong focus on industry engagement (including support for commercial projects), with its facilities and expertise providing service to a range of marine industries at both a national and international level. CORL houses major nationally-significant research infrastructure at UWA that includes a large-scale (54 m) wave flume, a unique O-Tube facility, a number of additional experimental hydraulics facilities (e.g., current flumes, sloshing tanks, etc.), and support for specialised ocean field observations. 

About the opportunity

As the appointee you will, under broad direction, have responsibility for the provision of high-level technical management of the laboratory (including operations and project delivery) and ensure compliance with standards.

About you 

You will ensure delivery of high-quality experimental work, including management, design, and execution of experimental programs. You will be responsible for engagement with project stakeholders, overseeing project deliverables and contributing to a range of research outputs. You will work with the academic staff and manage other technical staff to develop CORL as a world-class facility for conducting coastal and offshore research.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent competency
  • Substantial technical experience in coastal & offshore engineering (or related field) at an appropriate level
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise staff
  • Demonstrated ability to take precise scientific measurements and familiarity with relevant laboratory instrumentation or equivalent
  • Relevant knowledge and experience in IT, networking, and computing as it relates to experimental data acquisition
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose, repair, or fabricate equipment and operate equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes, etc.
  • Preferable to have programming skills in one or more of the following: Python, Matlab, LabVIEW, VB, C#, C/C++, Java or other high-level programming language
