Your new role

As a Technical Officer, you will play a crucial role in providing technical support, ensuring the safety of work practices, and facilitating a positive learning environment.


 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support for undergraduate laboratory classes, collaborating with academic and technical staff on experiment design and development.
  • Instruct students and researchers in scientific techniques, ensuring a high standard of technical support.
  • Enforce and promote Health and Safety practices, actively participating in the development and documentation of safety procedures.
  • Install, test, maintain, and repair laboratory equipment, actively monitoring their functionality.
  • Assist in stock-takes and maintain appropriate levels of materials and equipment.
  • Collaborate with technical staff for process improvement opportunities.

Please provide your CV and a cover letter addressing the selection criteria noted below to allow us to assess your suitability for this role.

  • Degree qualification in Molecular Biology/Biology or relevant discipline; or advanced certificate with extensive relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience in biological laboratory techniques including dissections.
  • Effective communication skills with staff and students.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to Occupational Safety and Health practices and regulations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member.
  • Commitment to professional development and upskilling programs.
  • Exposure to a PC2 working environment is desirable.
  • Experience in a teaching laboratory in tertiary education environment (Highly desirable)
  • Demonstrate Animal Physiology knowledge, able to handle and dissect rats and toads if required.
