About This Opportunity 

The Business Manager manages the business and administrative functions of the Queensland Brain Injury Collaborative. This includes managing the design and delivery of initiatives; implementing governance processes; business development; contributing to operational planning; and supporting human resource, financial and other management processes.

The role performs a wide range of business management activities which determine how objectives will be achieved and how resources will be deployed to achieve outcomes. This includes developing and sustaining effective working relationships with key stakeholders; delivering high-quality business development and support services; supporting operations; and managing the design and delivery of initiatives and associated governance processes.


Core Responsibilities

  • Supports implementation of strategic plans, operational planning, governance, budgeting, resource management and workforce planning processes

  • Works in partnership with key external and internal stakeholders, identifies business development opportunities, strategies and initiatives that support the objectives of the Collaborative

  • Provides high-level operational advice and support to the Collaborative Director on all matters pertaining to the Collaborative’s operations, financial management and business processes

  • Provide input into the development of strategic plans, appropriate performance measures, KPIs and/or deliverables, assess progress, and implement strategies and meet goals within the planned timelines

  • Identify and map opportunities for sources of collaboration with complementary research and non-research organisations, and assist in developing and maintaining relationships with a view to collaborative funding

  • Undertakes financial management, budgeting and financial planning responsibilities in accordance with the Business Plan, appropriate financial delegation and University policy and procedures including advising Collaborative Director on strategic initiatives that contribute to the Collaborative’s goals

  • Build and maintain on-going relationships with key internal and external stakeholders through consultation and engagement to establish and deliver scientific and business priorities and objectives in alignment with the Collaborative’s strategy

  • Represents the Collaborative’s best interests at relevant meetings ensuring strategic, operational, financial, contractual, and intellectual property alignment with the Collaborative’s strategic mission

  • Designs, implements, reviews and works to continuously improve business systems and processes to deliver operational efficiencies

  • Leads, demonstrates and promotes compliance with UQ policies and procedures, governance protocols, and risk management frameworks, as well as any legislative requirements

  • Prepares high quality briefings, information papers and reports



Stakeholder Engagement

  • Working with the Institute’s Communications team, lead the Collaborative’s internal and external communications, including development of Collaborative identity, website, media releases, social media accounts, and regular updates to stakeholders as necessary to promote the Collaborative

  • Lead the planning, organisation and conduct of events, functions, and public profiling activities, and provide regular proactive communications for the benefit of the Collaborative’s stakeholders and reputation

  • Assist the Director to develop and leverage strong working relationships with key identified stakeholders across academic, health, government, not-for-profit and business sectors

  • Operate as a key liaison between internal and external stakeholders to facilitate strong and long-term sustainable relationships

  • Where appropriate, provide stakeholders with awareness of relevant funding opportunities and assist in the development and submission of major funding proposals

Leadership and Management

  • Lead and manage staff in accordance with ‘Manager’ level of UQ’s Leadership framework

This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 3 years.

At HEW level 8, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $108,975.08 - $122,176.31, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $127,500.84 - $142,946.29 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.


About You

We are seeking an exceptional and experienced Business Manager to manage the business operations of the Queensland Brain Injury Collaborative.

  • Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications in business, business administration or another relevant discipline and extensive relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training

  • Substantial knowledge of and experience with development and innovation processes, with significant experience in project management, financial management and associated trend analysis and reporting with the ability to work well under pressure and constant concurrent deadlines

  • Highly developed interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to build both internal and external relationships and networks with key stakeholders

  • Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation, review and continuous improvement of business systems and processes to deliver operational efficiencies.

  • Proven digital literacy at an advanced level in key Microsoft products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, as well as corporate applications for financial and resource management

  • Demonstrated ability to work iteratively, adapting quickly to change and operating effectively both on an autonomous basis and as a member of a collaborative, client-focused team

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of University administrative systems, policies and procedures or the capacity to rapidly acquire this knowledge.

  • Science background or experience working with a scientific network.
