Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Bioinformatic Programmer to join School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health, Academic Division.

This is This position is within the Australian Translational Genomics Center (ATGC). It is a precision medicine laboratory located at the Translational Research Institute (TRI) with a primary focus on delivering novel genomic tests to support precision oncology, clinical trials, and research into human cancers through advanced genomics analysis. This role is responsible for providing programming and computational support for high-throughput genomic sequencing data. The candidate will maintain and improve existing genomic workflows, develop new workflows and algorithms using a cluster computing environment. Additionally, they will assist in the development of timely and informative reporting systems for genomic data, serving both clinical and research purposes. Collaboration with clinician and academic researchers on projects centred around precision oncology is an integral aspect of this role.

What you need to succeed

  • Completion of a PhD or Masters in a relevant area of computer science, or bioinformatics.
  • Substantial experience in scripting and software development (e.g. GO, SCALA, Perl, Python, JAVA).
  • Previous experience in the field of Next Generation Sequencing particularly in human cancers.
  • Experience in relational databases and SQL especially in regard to handling biological or clinical datasets.
  • Proficiency in Unix based systems and high performance computing.
  • Excellent problem solving ability and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills including ability to present and discuss own research work, contribute to discussion of the work of others, and pass on technical skills and knowledge.
