Associate Lecturer/Lecturer in Policing and Emergency Management

About the opportunity

The School of Social Sciences is looking for a Lecturer or Associate Lecturer to join their growing team of Police and Emergency Management experts.

With a focus on domestic and family violence, you will deliver the Tasmania Police recruit training program and support students on our various campuses including Hobart, Launceston, Burnie, Rozelle in Sydney, as well as the Victorian Police Academy in Melbourne. 

In addition to your teaching duties, you will undertake scholarly research through our specialist institute, The Tasmanian Institute of Law Enforcement Studies, and be supported by senior academic staff with an increasing degree of autonomy.

We have an opportunity for an academic level A or B depending on relevant experience and are open to full time or part time work from 0.6FTE and above. 

Due to our wide reach of students, some travel between campuses may be required.

What you’ll do:

  • Undertake scholarly undergraduate (and if relevant postgraduate) coursework teaching of a high quality.
  • Undertake and publish high-quality research of national and increasingly of international standing.
  • Contribute to the successful supervision of research higher degree students.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links with internal and external stakeholders.

­What we’re looking for:

  • A Masters, PhD or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • A commitment to engage in research for early career academics or industry professionals, with dedication to the evidence-base in the field. (Level A)
  • A demonstrated record of research that has achieved recognition and made worthwhile contributions to the field of Police and/or Emergency Management Studies. (Level B)
  • Experience in University-level teaching and learning.
  • A record of contributing to building and maintaining effective and productive links locally and nationally with the discipline, profession, industry (where relevant) and wider community.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level A or B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $147,083 comprising base salary within the range of $78,499 to $125,712 plus 17% superannuation.
