Your role

This role supports the Online Learning team to create engaging online and blended learning experiences in the Learning Management System (Canvas) as part of a new digital uplift project. The Assistant Learning Designer will work closely with the Learning Designers and Multimedia Support Officer to design and build interactive learning activities and resources and create appealing Canvas course sites, as well as support the creation of educational video.

Key accountabilities

  • Work with subject matter experts and learning designers to design, develop and build high quality digital learning experiences under the direction of the Manager, Online Learning.
  • Work with academic content to create learning sequences that are engaging, pedagogically rich, interactive and aligned.Work with academic content to create learning sequences that are engaging, pedagogically rich, interactive and aligned.Construct learning experiences that promote interaction, social presence, and community among students, and between students and faculty.
  • Ensure that all content adheres to RMIT VN learning design, user experience, accessibility, copyright and style guide standards.
  • Use a range of authoring and multimedia tools to build out learning sequences in the Learning Management System.
  • Format pages in the learning management system according to a style guide using basic HTML
  • Set up course shells, assignments and other elements of Canvas courses.
  • Ensure digital content supports student achievement of the desired learning objectives of the relevant courses.
  • Carry out other duties as required by the University.

Key selection criteria

  • A passion for education and lifelong learning
  • A bachelor degree in a field related to education, communication, design or technology.
  • Experience working with a range of learning technologies such as Canvas, H5P, Genial.ly
  • Demonstrated good level of English communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to pick up new technologies quickly
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with peers and give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work independently and show initiative
  • Basic/Intermediate knowledge of HTML and CSS is an advantage.
  • Work experience in an educational environment would be an advantage.
  • Teaching experience would be an advantage
  • Ability to display appropriate behaviours in line with the position, as per the RMIT Behavioural Capability Framework (Connectedness, Commitment to Excellence – Improve and Simplify; Imagination and Innovation; Impact; Inclusion; Agility).

English Proficiency

  • The minimum requirement is IELTS with a score of at least 5.5 or 150 in Linguaskills.
