About the role

The Associate Director – Policy & Workplace Relations leads a dedicated team of workplace relations and case management experts who will partner with people leaders to collaboratively manage complex grievances, misconduct matters and industrial disputes.

A key focus of the role in 2024 is implementing a holistic case management model within a matrix structure across the People function, balancing employment risk management and individual and team wellbeing.  Leading this work, you will build a trusted and collaborative approach to case management that ensures fair and equitable outcomes for our community.

Uplifting our People Leader’s capability and confidence in supporting their teams and building preventative capacity will also be an area of focus for this role and the team.

In this role you will also have the opportunity to work closely with the People Executive team and Director Policy & Workplace Relations in developing RMIT’s strategic response to legislative changes that will shape our future workforce practices.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have

  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to lead teams to deliver outcomes and effectively coordinate the integration of resources, processes, systems, people and policies.

  • Demonstrable experience as a senior human resources leader with employee relations & case management experience and expertise.

  • Commercial acumen in decision making and advice, supported by a demonstrated record of success in providing a high level of advice and support at an executive level relating to industrial matters.

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering improved service outcomes through organisational change.

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to deal sensitively with employees and people leaders, and effectively engage stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively to foster effective sharing of information. 

  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring others and risk management.

  • Strong analytical skills and the courage and ability to challenge and influence stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated experience coaching and upskilling leaders and HR practitioners in people issues management.
