Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Assistant Accountant (Assets) to join Finance Business Solutions, Chancellery Division.

As the Asset Finance Officer, you will contribute to the financial management of the University’s fixed assets by maintaining appropriate accounting practices and producing timely and accurate financial records, that comply with Australian Accounting Standards and Treasury Guidelines. The Asset Finance Officer is a key member of the finance control team providing support and guidance on asset management processes and identifying opportunities to continuously improve team performance.

Within Chancellery Division, Finance Business Solutions (FBS) is responsible for a range of business functions to facilitate the ongoing financial and planning viability of the university in realising QUT’s strategic aims and objectives, whilst maintaining a customer centric approach when engaging with the university community, industry and government. 

This position resides within the FBS portfolio’s Financial Control, which is responsible for the procedures, policies and all accounting activities, that monitors and control the direction, allocation and usage of the University’s financial resources..

What you need to succeed

  • Education, training and/or experience equivalent to the completion of a degree in accounting, with at least four years subsequent asset accounting experience.
  • Sound knowledge of fixed assets related accounting standards (AASB 116 - PP&E, AASB 138 - Intangibles, AASB 136 – Impairment and AASB13 – Fair Value)
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to gather and integrate information from several sources to enable accurate decision making.
  • Highly developed digital literacy skills with demonstrated high level proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite products and financial packages such as Oracle.
  • High level written, interpersonal and verbal skills with the ability to quickly stablish rapport, manage collaborative working relationships and engage with diverse client groups, addressing enquiries related to Fixed Assets transactions.

  • Desirable criteria for HEW 6: 

    6.  Previous experience with Oracle Asset Module.
