We are seeking a skilled professional to provide personalised career support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at ECU.

The Role
The ECU Careers and Employability Services in Student Life provide free resources, professional career advice and job search support to all current ECU students and alumni. 

As part of the University’s Careers and Employability Team, this position is dedicated to providing career support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at ECU. Your primary responsibilities will include facilitating personalised career conversations and developing career workshops. This role is pivotal in connecting students to meaningful employment opportunities that align with students’ degree and intrinsic values.

In this role you will work closely with Kurongkurl Katitjin, Edith Cowan University’s Centre for Indigenous Australian Education and Research.  Kurongkurl Katitjin supports University-wide activities and programs, as well as activities specific to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their cultures.

Key Criteria

  • A tertiary qualification with subsequent experience OR an equivalent level of frontline support service expertise gained from a combination of experience and training in implementing programs and managing support for individuals.
  • Demonstrated experience in customer service, identifying their support needs and developing relevant career plans. Additionally, a work history incorporating education, counselling or community service would be preferred.
  • The ability to investigate, identify and analyse key issues and the associated alternatives, benefits and costs to develop practical solutions. Also, an understanding of when a decision needs to be escalated to others, and working to try to identify and address potential problems before they arise.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others to accomplish joint tasks and common objectives. Involves building positive working relationships with others and avoiding “win-lose” confrontations and a focus on preserving and strengthening the ongoing relationship. 
  • Building rapport and forming positive working relationships with all internal stakeholders as well as external stakeholders/communities.

You will also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry, Courage and Personal Excellence.

Benefits & Remuneration
This fixed-term (to 20 December 2024), part-time (80%) position attracts a remuneration of $81,614 to $90,691 (HEW 5) pro-rata per annum plus 17% superannuation.
